Essentials For Winter Self Care
I’m really loving this Winter! I’ve been making it extra cozy with more hot cocoa, comfort films, extra blankets, and warm slippers. But I’m making it feel even better with some self care items. Winter is cold and drying and these items can warm you up, keep you hydrated, and make you feel all round cozy.
- Aloe Gel
Winter is so drying to the skin and every year, my face is the first place I start feeling it. I’ve always had pretty sensitive skin and every product I’ve tried in the past made my skin burn, greasy, or even made me break out. But a few years back I found Aloe Soothing Gel. It has been a lifesaver! It’s cooling, provides moisture, and helps with my breakouts as well. If you are in an area that is sunny, aloe gel also helps with sun burn.
- Aveeno Daily Moisturizer
Having a daily moisturizer that won’t make you break out and even helps protect your skin against the sun is just what you need this Winter. Try Aveeno Positively Radiant Sheer Daily Moisturizer. Perfect for sensitive skin and leaves no oil residue while hydrating your skin. It’s also lightweight and absorbs quickly, making it a top choice for an every day moisturizer plus sunscreen.
- Humidifier
Another product that is perfect to have for dry weather and one of my favorite items when I’m feeling sick is my humidifier. It’s easy to use and comes with 10 essential oils. It also adds moisture to the air for hydrating dry skin, improves sleep quality, as well as reduces the risk of getting any respiratory issues such as dry throat and nasal passages while boosting your immune system.
- Nasal Wash “Neti Pot”
I’ve had sinus issue for the past few years now and what helps me on bad days is my Nasal Wash “Neti Pot”. It’s simple to use and helps clear your sinuses quickly. Just put in a packet of the saline solution, fill the bottle to the line with filtered warm water, and shake until mixed. (Don’t use water from the sink as it can lead to bacterial infections or contain dangerous amoeba). After, tilt your head to the side and pour the solution into one nostril until it comes out the other side. Sometimes I don’t notice just how plugged I am until the water doesn’t come out the other side. 😂 This also helps me when my allergies are acting up. Refills of the saline solution are available here.
- Heating Pad
If you are feeling cold, achy, or have muscle pains, try a heating pad. I don’t think I could make it through Winter, or even that achy time of the month us girls all know without it. I prefer the XL size but you can buy heating pads in all different sizes, including one that fits your bed!
- Sunrise Alarm Clock
Although I love Winter, the gloomy days can make me feel depressed sometimes. That’s why I got a Sunrise Alarm Clock to help me wake up in the mornings. There are 7 colors and 7 sounds to choose from and you can also use it as a night light. I set a timer for when I want to wake up and it slowly gets brighter, imitating the actual sun.
- Scented Candles and Wax Melts
I’ve mentioned candles multiple times before but they really are some of the best things to help elevate your mood. Especially scented candles or wax melts! Right now I have been using wax melts that smell just like sugar cookies and every time I light it, it makes me feel like Christmas started all over again. Have a comfy scent throughout your home really does make you feel all cozy inside.
- Bathtime
If you have a bathtub or like me who doesn’t have one currently and goes to a hotel once in a while to use one, then Wintertime is the best time to take a bath! Bubble bath and epsom salt are my go-tos. I also use lavender scented epsom salt because it’s more relaxing. Lavender is also great to use before bed as it helps you to have a better sleep.
- Hot Drinks
I love my coffee and drink it almost every day. It warms me up, I love the flavor, and it gives me energy early on in the day. If you aren’t a coffee drinker, tea or hot cocoa are also great options. Especially on those cold days when you don’t want to leave your house and just cuddle up with some blankets and drink something warm and soothing. My favorite coffee drink is a latte and I love a good green tea with honey. Another drink that tastes good but also helps whenever I have a cold is hot water with honey and lemon. It soothes the throat and keeps you warm while you are getting better.
So if you are feeling those Winter blues, I hope you try out one or more of these products as they always help me feel warm, hydrated, awake, and happy. Let me know what you do for self-care throughout the Winter time!
