Create a Perfect Solo Movie Night
If you’re like me, you can just stay at home in bed or snuggled up on the couch and watch your favorite movies. I usually prefer to watch them with someone such as my husband or my mom but if you are the opposite and want a solo movie night, this list is for you!
While I was in high school on my days off, I would spend all day in my room watching movies. Anything from old favorites, new releases, or just any random one that looked interesting. But I always had, I guess you could say, a movie-watching ritual and I’d like to share what I do whenever I decide to have a solo movie night. Or even day!
- Decide on The Right Movie(s)
My go-to is always horror or thriller but if the next movie is before bed, I might want something more lighthearted to end the night. I also never like watching sad movies before I sleep since I might go to bed feeling sad so I usually watch those first. Comedy is good for any time as well as romance, especially after something sad or scary.
But whatever movies you decide to watch or what order you watch them in, deciding on the right ones can set the vibe of your movie-watching experience.
- Prepare Snacks & Drinks
My favorite part, other than the movies themselves, is the food! Just like at a movie theater, popcorn is my number one option. With lots of butter of course. Any other salty foods such as soft or hard pretzels, chips, tortillas and salsa, nachos and cheese, or even pizza are perfect for the start of the movie. Just some comforting foods to help me stay energized throughout.
For dessert, I always need something fruity, such as gummy bears or sour candy, and something chocolate like a chocolate bar or choco pies.
Lastly, for drinks, I would say to have multiple options as well. Water, soda, juice, coffee, or hot cocoa. Some of my favorite drinks are root beer, which you can’t find here in Korea, so sad, Mogu Mogu, and just plain water. If you are in the mood, and an adult of course, alcohol such as wine, beer, or mixed drinks. I prefer mixed drinks myself. The fruitier, the better. But anything to keep you hydrated throughout the movie will make for a better movie experience.
- Comfortable Seating
Whether you are in bed, on the couch, or on the floor, making your spot comfy as possible will help you feel more relaxed. Extra blankets and pillows are a must. If you’re on the floor, a bean bag chair or even a thick fuzzy rug can make it more comfortable. Having a footrest while sitting on the couch can help you elevate your feet while sitting back and relaxing.
- Comfy Clothing
While I’m at home, I always wear pajamas or loungewear. Loose fitting pants and tops, as well as a cardigan or sweater for warmth make for no restrictions when cozying up for a movie. Fuzzy socks and/or slippers will also keep your feet warm, especially during a cold Fall or Winter day.
- Lighting
This is also an important factor when sitting down to watch a movie. Personally, I like to have all or most of the lights off. One or two lamps, fairy lights, and/or candles are perfect for a cozy, relaxing setting. When it comes to color temperature of your lights, go for warm or neutral as it can create a warmer ambiance.
I hope however you spend your solo movie night, it's full of comfort, warmth, and happiness. Also, let me know what movies you watched for your last movie night and what you do to make it the most cozy!
