How to Prepare for Spring Picnics

I love going on picnics! Especially in the Spring and Fall time. Perfect weather and perfect time to relax outside with my husband while listening to the birds and wind.

I plan on having a few picnics within the next few months before it gets too hot this Summer. I would also like to go to the beach sometime and just relax by the water in the sand with some fruit and good drinks.

If you are planning on having a picnic though and never had one before, you may be wondering what to bring, the best foods and drinks to make, best time of year, etc. Well, to me, Spring is the best! The flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, not too hot or too cold.

I came up with a list of things that I think make for that perfect Spring picnic with your loved ones or even solo!

  • Bringing a blanket or mat: If you want to sit straight on the grass, then by all means go ahead but if you want it be extra comfy for you, I recommend bringing something to sit on. We have a few mats that we like to sit on that have a bit of a cushion. Blankets are great too, even if you are using them only to cover up on those breezy afternoons.
  • Wearing comfy clothing: You will want something lightweight and easy to move around in. For me, I like longer skirts and dresses or linen capris. I always bring layers as well just in case so a nice cardigan or sweater.
  • Using hand fans: For those days that may be a little on the warmer side, a hand fan is great! A paper or an electric one will do. Electric ones with a spray bottle are also perfect for Summertime. They can fit nicely in your purse or other bags as well.
  • Bringing a small folding table: Something I forgot on my recent picnic is a folding table for food and drinks. It can be much easier to handle everything not being directly on the ground and much more comfortable when eating.
  • Bringing a cooler with ice: If you can, having a cooler filled with ice for your drinks, salads, fruit, etc. It’s perfect for warm days to keep everything cool or for longer picnics.
    • Insulated bag alternative: If you are like me and don’t have a car and/or travel by public transport, then it may be difficult to bring a cooler. Insulated bags are a great option for this! We have plenty that we put our food and drinks in when going on picnics. They are super convenient and lighter to carry afterwards.
  • Using a picnic basket: The one thing I don’t have and have always wanted is a picnic basket. This is the most convenient and essential part of a picnic, if you don’t have other bags to use. Make sure it’s big enough to carry everything or even have multiple baskets if there are more people. I would also still use my insulate bags inside the picnic basket to keep them cool while traveling to the picnic spot. Some even have storage for silverware and plates to keep them secure.
  • Using sunscreen & bug spray: Protecting yourself from the sun as well as bugs is also very important when picnicking. Most people tend to have picnics in the grass or by trees as well being out in the open under the sun. So having something that keeps mosquitos and other insects away is needed. Also, even if it’s not hot out or the sun is behind clouds, there is always a chance to get a sunburn if you’re not careful.
  • Preparing easy-to-eat food: You can eat whatever you want of course, but I always try to have food that is easy to carry and enjoy while sitting. Foods such as sandwiches, boiled or deviled eggs, salads in ready-to-eat bowls, dips or hummus for chips and crackers, and fruit platters.
  • Hydrating with drinks: Especially on hot days, you’ll need lots of liquids. Water, juice, soda, iced tea, etc. I always try to have a variety for everyone as well as having different drinks for the main meal and dessert.
  • Bringing tableware: Having plates, bowls, cutlery, napkins, and cups are necessary. Even if the food you prepared is in their own, reusable containers, having extras for everyone can make eating easier.
  • Having games and/or music: Having some games to play or music to listen to can keep everyone entertained. I usually just like listening to nature sounds when I’m on a picnic but calming music or badminton is something both my husband and I like once in a while. It’s both fun and entertaining if boredom strikes.
  • Reading a book: My favorite place to read is outside with nature lighting. Bring something to read, whether it’s a book, comic, newspaper, a picnic is the perfect place for it. It’s also great for after eating and you just want to relax.
There you have it! My list for preparing for Spring picnics. 🌷
I hope you all have a great Spring as am I, and hopefully will see you all soon! I plan to make more posts but just have been extremely busy lately.

Bye! ✌️
